Fourth Consecutive Year for Akin Gump on GAR 100 Guide to Leading Arbitration Law Firms

(Geneva) – For the fourth year in a row, Akin Gump has been named to Global Arbitration Review’s GAR 100 guide to the top law firms with international arbitration capabilities. The guide uses as its criteria a firm’s reputation, amount of work undertaken and experience.

In its 2015 edition, Akin Gump’s ability to pick up matters on short notice—and often at the 11th hour—is spotlighted, using as examples its engagement by, and work for, VeriSign and Norilsk Nickel. Similarly, the firm’s work for national governments is singled out for notice, such as its defense work for Colombia in a billion-dollar WTO dispute with Panama, and Akin Gump’s recent addition to a Chinese government panel of advisers on WTO and regional trade disputes.

GAR’s profile of the firm reports the arrival of former WTO Appellate Body secretariat counsel Alan Yanovich to the firm’s Geneva office (learn more here), as well as Akin Gump’s $22 million win on behalf of Africa-focused PE firm Emerging Capital Partners in an LCIA dispute and the firm’s ongoing work with Virasa Technologies in a $700 million ICC claim brought by a Korean manufacturer.

Among the Akin Gump practitioners noted by GAR and clients in the published profile are new practice head Michael Stepek, London disputes head Justin Williams and Geneva partner Vanessa Liborio.
