Intellectual Property Litigator Paul Tripodi Joins Akin Gump in Southern California

Mr. Tripodi brings a substantial focus on patent litigation, IP-related licensing and contract disputes, and strategic counseling

(Irvine, CA, and Los Angeles) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that Paul D. Tripodi II has joined the firm as a partner in its intellectual property practice. Mr. Tripodi will continue to maintain strong ties to his existing practice in Los Angeles, while practicing primarily in Orange County and the firm’s Irvine office. Mr. Tripodi comes to Akin Gump from Wilson Sonsini, where he was a partner.

Mr. Tripodi’s practice focuses on intellectual property (IP) litigation, including patent litigation, IP-related licensing and contract disputes, as well as strategic patent counseling and issues relating to trade secret misappropriation. He has been involved in both bench and jury trials as well as proceedings before various international tribunals and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). In addition, Mr. Tripodi represents clients before federal district courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board  and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Tripodi has litigated patents involving a wide range of technologies, including a variety of life science and biotech matters along with a significant focus on the medical device industry and related litigation. He has also handled a number of cases on behalf of high-tech companies operating in areas such as smartphone design and operation, network adapters, graphical user interfaces, bluetooth technology and standards, integrated circuits, and video game technology, among others.

About Paul Tripodi

Mr. Tripodi had been a partner at Wilson Sonsini since 2013. Prior to that, he was a partner at another global law firm, which was preceded by his tenure in an IP-specialty practice in Orange County and Los Angeles. Mr. Tripodi is certified as a pro bono publico prosecutor on behalf of the state of California and has served as a volunteer prosecutor in a variety of criminal matters.

Mr. Tripodi received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law. He has an M.S. in chemical physics from California Institute of Technology and his B.S. in chemistry, with honors and distinction, from Pennsylvania State University.
