For its article “Will the UK investment bill impede investors?,” Investment Monitor quoted Akin Gump international trade partner Jasper Helder on new proposed legislation, the National Security and Investment Bill, in the U.K. that, according to the article, looks to balance inbound investment with national security by increasing the government’s abilities to review and, possibly, stop foreign direct investment in the country.

Helder noted, “The proposed new law will dramatically reduce the ease with which dealmakers, especially those with funds originating overseas, can acquire some of the most sensitive (and lucrative) parts of the UK economy without evidencing their bona fide intent for the acquisition.”
