Jasper Helder Quoted by Marketplace on US-EU Trade Issues

Akin Gump international trade partner Jasper Helder was interviewed by American Public Media’s Marketplace podcast following President Trump’s recent comments about tariffs and other barriers to trade put up by the European Union.
Helder said the E.U. might be slightly higher on tariffs than the United States is, but not significantly. With non-tariff barriers, however, he said that is a comparison in which Mr. Trump is right, referring to the various E.U. regulations that can make additional work for U.S. exporters.
“If you want to bring products on to the European market, for example, consumer products, electrical products, products that comprise chemical ingredients, historically Europe has been much stronger on regulation in this area than the U.S.”
