Legaltech News has quoted Akin Gump communications partner Jennifer Richter in the article “Legal Tech’s Predictions for 2019 in Innovative Technologies.” The article offers some forecasts on what to look for next year in the area of legal technology.

Regarding unmanned aerial systems, or “drones,” Richter said she thinks the Federal Aviation Administration will, after a long wait, “propose a rule for remote identification (and perhaps tracking) of commercial and recreational drones.” She expects this to happen toward the end of May.

Additional rulemaking could follow, she said, that will “enable expanded [unmanned aerial systems] operations, such as operations over people, which are currently only authorized by a specific waiver process under 14 CFR Part 107.”
