For its article “Russia Bombshells Leave Sanctions Bar Guessing,” Law360 quoted Akin Gump international trade partner Jonathan Poling on the future of sanctions on Russia with the advent of the Trump administration and in the wake of what the article calls “explosive allegations of Moscow-related impropriety.”

Poling said of possible legislation to increase or cement sanctions against Russia that, at a minimum, it could have the effect of bolstering extant measures. He noted, “While it is difficult to assess how a Trump administration may exercise its executive authorities to alter U.S. sanctions against Russia, there is clearly significant and bipartisan support in Congress for passing legislation to make permanent the Russia sanctions and perhaps add to them.”
