The Wall Street Journal’s Risk & Compliance Journal blog quoted Akin Gump partner and London disputes practice head Justin Williams on the rise of anticorruption enforcement by U.K. authorities with regard to the recent News Corp. verdict.

In the article, “Hacking Verdict Won’t Deter UK Enforcement,” Williams noted that, since the U.K. Bribery Act of 2010, there have been no high-profile bribery cases against corporations. However, as the News Corp. case shows, he expects to see a rise in the enforcement of anticorruption law: “U.K. authorities are keen to apply the law where they feel they have the evidence to bear down on that sort of activity. There is an appetite to enforce anti-corruption law in the U.K., and my expectation is that in the months and years to come there will be prosecutions for anti-corruption.”
