Law360 has noted Akin Gump’s efforts to achieve equality for members of the LGBTQ community, in the article “7 BigLaw Firms Step Up In Litigation Push For LGBTQ Rights.” Akin Gump is one of seven large firms, the article says, signing on to dedicate pro bono resources to a new effort announced by the nonprofit organization Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

The strategic cases that the law firms plan to take on, according to the article, will seek to hold accountable entities and governments that target members of the LGBTQ community with discriminatory laws, regulations and policies. The firms will also work to shape state and federal law in the U.S. and expand the application of constitutional principles to LGBTQ people.

The campaign was first announced in an HRC news release, which is available by clicking here. Steven Schulman, pro bono partner at Akin Gump, said the firm “has been proud to count HRC among our most valued clients for many years, and looks forward to pursuing litigation to affirm that LGBTQ rights are human rights.”
