Michelle Reed and Elizabeth Scott, partner and counsel, respectively, in the litigation practice at Akin Gump, have co-authored the article “Five Cybersecurity Mistakes Companies Make that Could Result in Their Prosecution,” for the July/August issue of Financial Fraud Law Report.

Reed and Scott provide background on Securities and Exchange Commission guidance regarding disclosure obligations and then, as the title of the article suggests, look at mistakes often made by companies that could lead to an investigation or prosecution by the SEC or other regulators. The authors also examine some strategies for successfully avoiding these potential pitfalls.
