Gutermann was the first speaker, discussing the impact of low oil and gas prices. He noted the slowdown in transactions with, “over the horizon, a potential uptick in financial restructurings and changes in the financings for existing entities, existing transactions.” He also spoke about the potential for significant increases in expenses through current, additional and planned regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency, the departments of Interior and Transportation and others.
Later in the program, Gutermann talked about the EPA’s recent moves to gain more control over the oil and gas industry’s operations. He also spoke about the regulation of greenhouse gases and the implications on the oil and gas industry, including a case currently before the Supreme Court, observing that it could “potentially a big problem for the Obama administration and its greenhouse gas regulatory program.” In addition, Gutermann briefly discussed the topic of methane regulation.
