Paul Gutermann Quoted in FierceEnergy on EPA Administrator Nominee

President Obama’s selections for energy secretary and EPA administrator were the subjects of a FierceEnergy article in which Akin Gump environment and natural resources partner Paul Gutermann is quoted.
With Republicans in the majority of the House of Representatives, there is, according to Gutermann, “no chance for the passage of climate change legislation” under Gina McCarthy, Mr. Obama’s pick to run EPA. The agency “has been engaged in considerable regulatory development under the Clean Air Act to control greenhouse gas emissions,” and Gutermann says he expects that to continue.
Gutermann notes that one key consideration is “how McCarthy views natural gas as an ‘acceptable’ source of electricity generation.” EPA, he says, will play a big role “in the pace and manner in which domestic sources of energy are developed and Assistant Administrator McCarthy’s dispositions toward that development bear close scrutiny.”
