Akin Gump health partner Nate Brown was quoted by POLITICO Pulse in an article about the sterilization drug Essure.

The article reports that a congressman from Pennsylvania was set to introduce legislation to remove the medical device, a form of permanent birth control, from the market because of safety concerns. The FDA is already reviewing the issue, with an advisory panel having convened in September.

Brown, who served in the FDA’s Office of Chief Counsel, said that even in cases concerning public health issues, “it would be quite unusual for Congress to legislate specific treatment of a particular type of device.”
