Law360 for its article “Lawyers Weigh In On High Court's Affirmative Action Ruling” quoted Akin Gump Supreme Court practice head Pratik Shah on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that a Michigan law banning affirmative action programs for college admissions is constitutional.

Shah said of the decision, “The court’s fractured decision upholding the Michigan voter initiative reflects its struggle to reconcile its historic civil rights-era precedents protecting a racial minority’s ability to participate in the political process, with its more recent decisions and the trend of state voter initiatives limiting the scope of affirmative action programs. Although the earlier precedents remain on the books, their continued vitality is very much in doubt.”
