Daily Journal, for its article “Immigration appeals board getting tough treatment by 9th Circuit,” quoted Akin Gump Supreme Court and appellate practice co-head Rex Heinke on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals’ views on, and reaction to, the Board of Immigration Appeals’ (BIA) process of handling asylum applications.

The article notes that the circuit’s 2014 docket was largely dominated by immigration cases and judges often challenged the BIA’s decisions throughout the year. Heinke added, “The circuit has generally been unhappy and critical with the way the BIA handles cases. So the judges have tried to nudge immigration courts to give more due process to immigrants.”
