The following statement was issued today by Akin Gump senior executive partner Joel Jankowsky on behalf of the firm:

“We were saddened to learn of the passing of our former colleague, Speaker Tom Foley. Throughout his lifetime of public service, from the local level through his tenure as Speaker of the House and as Ambassador to Japan, Speaker Foley served his nation with tremendous honor and distinction. We are privileged that he chose to spend a portion of his distinguished career as a partner at Akin Gump. For just as the nation benefitted from his wise counsel, character and integrity, so did our firm and our clients. We therefore join with many others across the country in mourning the passing of our former colleague and friend, Speaker Foley.”
