Akin Gump international trade partner Stephen Kho and associate Claude Chase have co-authored, along with Atlantic Council senior fellow Mark Linscott, the Law360 article “US Could Better Effect WHO Reform From Within.” Following President Trump’s announcement in April that the United States would halt funding to the World Health Organization (WHO), the article suggests that reforming the organization would be more effective through other means.

The authors write that the United States should instead “ramp up and deepen its engagement within the WHO, and build and leverage strategic alliances to achieve effective reform.” The starting point, they add, “should be to reinvigorate and reemphasize inclusiveness, transparency and accountability” in the WHO’s governance.
