Stephen Kho, a partner in the international trade practice at Akin Gump, was quoted by The Wall Street Journal in the article “Donald Trump Policy Plans Raise Concerns, Critics Argue,” which examines some recent comments by the Republican presidential candidate.

Among those cited in the article is Trump’s remark that he would add a 35 percent tax to every car and truck manufactured at a new Ford Motor plant in Mexico. The article points out, however, that such a fee would likely violate the North American Free Trade Agreement. New tariffs would also need approval by Congress.

Kho, whose practice focuses on international trade policy and international dispute resolution, said, it is not clear “what authority would allow [Trump] to do” what he is proposing.
