Akin Gump international trade partner Stephen Kho was quoted by Law360 for its article “Asian Trade Talks Could Put Pressure On US TPP Efforts” on the impact of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership talks—in which China, India, Japan and ASEAN, among others, are participating—on the ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations in which the United States has been involved.

Kho noted that because both trade deals involve many of the same participants, the deal completed first could “lay the groundwork” for trade in the Asia-Pacific region. He added, “My sense has always been that the RCEP could be one of the drivers to get the TPP done sooner. It's in the interest of the U.S. to lay the groundwork.”
