Akin Gump pro bono partner Steven Schulman, who will serve as the president of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel (APBCo) in 2014, has written, along with the 2013 APBCo president and a member of the organization’s board, an article for Law360 looking at pro bono work in 2014.

Among the trends identified by the authors for 2014 are coordinated efforts by law firms, legal services organizations, and the judiciary, among other participants, to tackle multiple issues at once; expanded involvement in pro bono by in-house counsel; increased pro bono mandates by bar associations, following New York’s adoption of a pro bono requirement for new bar members; and the growth of medical-legal partnerships to identify and address cases where a patients’ legal needs impact their health care.
