The Veterans Consortium Honors Akin Gump with A National Pro Bono Mission Partner Award

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump, along with its client AT&T, has been named a recipient of one of The Veterans Consortium’s 2018 TVC National Pro Bono Mission Partner Awards. For the past year, the two have sponsored an Equal Justice Works fellow at The Veterans Consortium, and have worked together to represent veterans referred by the agency.
Akin Gump and AT&T will be honored for their pro bono service “above and beyond the call of duty” for the nation’s veterans and their families, caregivers and survivors, in the category of Law Firm/Corporate Pro Bono Mission Partners (National Leadership). Working with Equal Justice Works Fellow Danica Gonszalves, Akin Gump and AT&T have represented several veterans suffering from service-related post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injury, helping them to upgrade their less-than honorable discharges so they can obtain the military benefits they earned through their service. Akin Gump has been led in the matter by corporate partner Thomas H. Yang.
The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program has been providing assistance for more than 26 years, helping veterans and their families, caregivers and survivors win access to the care, benefits and compensation they earned through military service. This year’s awards will be presented on October 3.
