Victoria Widdows Speaks with The Legal 500 Podcast on Solicitor Training During the Pandemic

Contact:
Victoria Widdows, director of international legal recruiting and development at Akin Gump, participated in a recent episode of The Legal 500 Podcast, hosted by The Lex 100. The discussion focused on trainee solicitor programs in the U.K. during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Widdows began by talking about the arrangements put in place at Akin Gump to ensure trainees could continue working through the start of the pandemic. When new trainees begin working this fall, Widdows said the firm will convert “everything that was face-to-face to Zoom or WebEx.” Onboarding, she said, has been spread over several days, allowing the firm to adapt the regular schedule to the virtual format.
Other topics covered on the podcast were how aspects of trainee life might change as the pandemic continues; the firm’s wellbeing program, which includes an in-house mental health counselor (click here to learn more); and how this summer’s virtual vacation scheme played out.
