Mandate for Diversity

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP’s Mandate for Diversity articulates the firm’s goal of becoming a leader in diversity and serves as a guideline for our ongoing efforts. This mandate underscores the belief that diversity is both consistent with our goal to become a highly successful firm and essential to achieving that success.

Elements of the Strategy

Invest in internal diversity training and group discussion, with the goal that everyone within the firm understands and is able to articulate clearly to clients and peers the firm’s achievements in, and vision for, diversity.

Utilize our diverse talent to strengthen and expand our relationships with existing and potential clients.

Monitor and increase diversity of team leaders and team members on client service teams.

Develop and invest in innovative, long-term approaches to associate recruitment and hiring that yield measurably more diverse and more talented associate classes.

Alter and track lateral recruiting methods to improve diversity in lateral hiring.

Analyze and reduce unnecessary attrition by improving plans for mentoring and promotion for outstanding attorneys.

Ensure that business development and pro bono expenditures reflect our commitment to diverse markets and communities.

Increase utilization of diverse vendors and suppliers.

Enhance public awareness of the firm’s diverse lawyers and mandate for diversity.

Develop and implement measurable objectives and standards of accountability for diversity in each office and department and in firmwide committees.

Continue to refine the means of tracking our progress on diversity on all levels.
