Biography

Temporarily on a Full-Time Client Secondment

  • Represents lenders, export credit agencies, multi-lateral institutions, government agencies and developers in cross-border transactions, including the development, financing, acquisition, disposition and restructuring of energy and infrastructure projects.

Jooyoung has extensive experience in energy and infrastructure projects and project financings. He has advised lenders, export credit agencies, multi-lateral institutions, government agencies and developers in cross-border transactions, including the development, financing, acquisition, disposition and restructuring of energy and infrastructure projects. He has experience with negotiating and drafting a broad range of finance and project agreements.

Prior to joining Akin Gump, Jooyoung worked at a top tier U.S. law firm, advising both borrowers and lenders on a range of project finance and general corporate financing transactions.

Representative Work
  • Advising lenders (including Korean export credit agencies) in connection with the financing and development of the 2GW Jawa 9+10 Independent Power Producer Project in Indonesia.*
  • Advising a large global group of export credit agencies and commercial lenders on the multi-billion dollar RAPID Refinery / Petrochemical project in Malaysia, sponsored by Saudi Aramco and PETRONAS.*
  • Advising ADB, IFC and commercial lenders in connection with the development and financing of the Riau gas fired power plant in Indonesia.*
  • Advising Marubeni Corporation, ENGIE and PT Supreme Energy in connection with the development and financing of the Rantau Dedap geothermal power project in Indonesia.*
  • Advising Japanese and Korean export credit agencies and commercial lenders on the financing for the development of the Cirebon coal-fired power plant expansion project in Indonesia.*
  • Advising Sumitomo, ENGIE and PT Supreme Energy in connection with the development and financing of the Muara Laboh geothermal facility in Indonesia.*
  • Advising export credit agencies and commercial banks in connection with financing of hydroelectric power plants in Indonesia.*
  • Advising initial purchasers in US$650 million bond offering in connection with a hydroelectric power plant located in Peru.*
  • Advising NongHyup Financial Group in its equity investment and in debt financing for the construction of a 1,100MW combined-cycle natural gas electric facility located in Dover, New York.*
  • Advising investors and lenders in connection with the approximate US$900 million financing of the expansion of a port in Portsmouth, Virginia; and
  • Advising ad hoc group of the initial noteholders of an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test services company in connection with the confirmation of its prepackaged plan of reorganization as part of voluntary proceedings under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court.*
