Equal Justice Works
Equal Justice Works is the premier summer and postgraduate law fellowship program in the United States, funding and supporting the next generation of legal services leaders. Akin Gump has developed a close working relationship with Equal Justice Works, both through financial support and by working closely with the fellows we sponsor. Through donations from individuals, law firms, corporations and foundations, Equal Justice Works funds law students and lawyers in programs that bring justice to millions of low-income persons and families.
Since 2006, the firm has committed to select one Equal Justice Works fellow per year, for two-year fellowships, for a total of 10 fellows to date. Currently, the firm is sponsoring Amelia Fischer, who is working at the Texas Civil Rights Project in Austin from 2012-2014, and Jonathan Killoran, who is working at the Inner City Law Center in Los Angeles from 2013-2015. Akin Gump has also joined with Walmart to co-sponsor the fellowship of Krista Selnau at Arkansas Legal Aid. Additionally, Akin Gump’s chairperson, Kim Koopersmith, has served on Equal Justice Works’ board of directors since 2007 and is currently the board’s vice chair.
