Akin Gump Again Receives Multiple Awards for Support of 2018 Food From The Bar Campaign

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump has earned second place, based on money raised, among the 40 legal organizations participating in this year’s 10th annual From The Bar Campaign. The firm also received two awards for its efforts.

Lawyers and staff from Akin Gump’s Washington office donated $36,617 to the organization, the legal community’s response to hunger in Washington, D.C. As part of the program, law firms and legal professionals compete to support the Capital Area Food Bank’s mission of providing meals to children, seniors and families in need. This was the fourth straight year that Akin Gump has participated, with many individuals from Akin Gump’s Washington office volunteering on site.

Akin Gump won the Cornucopia Award in recognition of the 1146 pounds of food that it donated—the highest level of donations in the campaign—and, for the third time in the past four years, the Finish Line Award, for raising and contributing the largest amount of dollars on the last day of the campaign, which ran through the month of May. Last year, Akin Gump also won the Best All-Around Award.

Anthony T. Pierce, partner in charge of Akin Gump’s Washington, D.C. office, said, “Once again, these results show how dedicated Akin Gump’s people are when it comes to helping those less fortunate. I am very proud of the way this office stepped up for such a worthy cause.”

Overall, the campaign raised $280,000, which will provide 700,000 meals to children out of school this summer who are not otherwise able to secure their food.
