Whitman-Walker Honors Akin Gump with Inaugural “Stonewall Award” for Leadership on LGBTQ Legal Issues

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is proud to announce that, at its Going the Extra Mile 2019 fundraiser on May 15, Whitman-Walker Health will honor the firm with its Stonewall Award for Akin Gump’s “long-standing partnership and leadership on legal issues affecting the LGBTQ community.”

This is the first year that Whitman-Walker is presenting its Stonewall Award, named for the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Greenwich Village, New York, at which LGBTQ individuals stood up for their rights in the face of official harassment. The award recognizes “a law firm’s leadership in the fight for LGBTQ equality and whose commitment to Whitman-Walker Health’s Legal Services Program is unparalleled.”
