Thomson Reuters Westlaw has published “MedTech update 2020 — Legal and regulatory issues to watch for in the medical technology industry in the new year: Federal health care programs,” an article by Akin Gump senior counsel Taylor Jones, senior policy advisor Heide Bajnrauh and counsel Eli Tomar. The article looks at some of the “significant legal, regulatory and market changes” that could have “a lasting impact” on medical device and diagnostics companies and laboratories this year with regard to federal health programs.

Originally included as part of a longer Akin Gump client alert issued in January, this article outlines several areas to watch for throughout the year. They include:

  • An expected decision by the Department of Health and Human Services to issue final value-based rules.
  • Clarification of the Sunshine Act requirements for medical devices.
  • Code changes that will go into effect.
