Bloomberg Big Law Business has profiled Akin Gump’s diversity efforts in the article “Akin Gump’s New Leadership Shows Firm Drive Toward Diversity.” With the recent appointment of corporate partner Trey Muldrow as partner in charge of the firm’s New York office (click here to read more), the article reports that, in an industry where “the numbers of black partners across law firms remain small, and women lawyers still lag behind in partnership ranks, Akin Gump is among the firms that are showcasing gains in diversity and inclusion.”
Muldrow, the article reports, joins Anthony Pierce, another African-American lawyer, who is partner in charge of the Washington, D.C. office, as heads of the firm’s two largest offices. Four of its other offices are led by women, one of whom is also African-American.
The article quotes Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith, “Our diversity strategy includes a clear focus on diverse leadership, as diverse leadership enhances the perspectives we offer our clients and demonstrates to everyone at our firm that we are walking the walk.”
Providing clear role models for advancement and future leadership models, she added, “has been an intentional focus in our committees, practices and offices.”
