BBC News, in its article “You may be able to book a flying taxi within three years,” quoted Akin Gump communications and information technology practice head Jennifer Richter. The article discusses the development of flying cars and “skyports.”

According to the publication, Uber and Boeing are working together to develop eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) flying taxis, which could be in operation by 2040, and Joby Aviation has partnered with U.S. parking firm Reef Technology to transform the roofs of some of its carparks into skyports.

However, Richter says there are several key hurdles that must be addressed before “we reach a point reminiscent of the Jetsons,” including “public acceptance, high-volume manufacturing, digital, power and physical infrastructure investment, and the development of a highly-automated air traffic management system.”
