Akin Gump international trade partner Wynn Segall was interviewed by CGTN regarding the impact of U.S. sanctions on investments in Iran.

Segall said he thinks the economic opportunity in Iran “will remain in terms of the nature of its population, being highly educated.” Despite a tradition of engagement with the west, however, Tehran has not been able “to break out of political isolation for a long time.”

Looking at Iran through the lens of the Trump administration, Segall noted, “as long as Iran is pursuing activities that are harmful to the national security interests of the United States and U.S. allies in Europe and elsewhere, the U.S. condition is that there can be no economic engagement. But I do think if there’s a way to get past those issues, then there should be business opportunity that can be realized, but it’s a long road.”
