Clete Willems, partner in the public law and policy practice at Akin Gump, was interviewed on CNBC’s Street Signs Asia for a discussion on relations between the United States and European Union.

Willems pointed out that there are some current challenges in the relationship as well as tensions in the foreign policy area, including trade, “whether it’s Europe’s digital policies, which are very problematic in the United States, or things like ‘Buy American’” a policy that the Biden administration recently introduced.

Willems also spoke about his concerns over whether the United States and EU will be able to coordinate their China policies. “I think the Biden administration is going to have to do everything it can to raise the European level of ambition” toward Beijing, he said. “I think they’re clear-eyed about that challenge, but it is a real challenge.”
