POLITICO has quoted Akin Gump public law and policy partner Ed Pagano and senior advisor Ryan Thompson in the article “How K Street sees infrastructure.” The article reports on how lobbyists are preparing for the battle in Congress over an infrastructure package, including what any legislation will look like and to what extent Republicans will be involved.

According to Pagano, it’s going to be “a long and winding road here” since infrastructure does not offer the same clear and urgent areas of need that the pandemic has.

Thompson added, “Scope and scale is going to be important in that threshold question of bipartisanship.”

The article also says that K Street is divided on how much of a role earmarks could play in bringing Republicans to the negotiating table on infrastructure. For his part, Pagano thinks they would be helpful “for bringing out bipartisanship,” since doing so “just gets members more bought into the legislation.”

Despite the uncertainty, Pagano said clients “are excited about the potential for finally doing infrastructure.”
