The Financial Times has quoted Akin Gump public law and policy partner Clete Willems in the article “Donald Trump trade team’s unified front tested in China talks.” The FT reports that the Trump administration’s trade negotiating team has been able to project a unified front, despite the many issues that have arisen in trade talks with Beijing.

“For the most part there has been greater unity on China,” said Willems, a former White House economic advisor who served as a key trade negotiator. “There have been tactical differences — certain principals were more likely to up the ante — others were more inclined to take it slower — but everyone has supported the strategy.”

“Even if certain advisors do not 100 percent agree with certain maneuvering, they respect the decisions once they are made and do not turn around and undermine the policy,” Willems added.
