Government Contracting Law Report has published “DOD and Other Agencies Seek to Enhance Contractors’ Cyber and Supply Chain Security,” an article by Akin Gump litigation partners Robert Huffman, Natasha Kohne and Thomas McLish that recounts the steps being taken by the Department of Defense and other agencies to assess and enhance their cyber and supply chain security.
The authors highlight several actions announced by then-Defense Secretary James Mattis “that will directly or indirectly affect DOD contractors and subcontractors.” Combined, the moves will intensify scrutiny of those individuals, “increase their cyber and supply chain security compliance requirements, and affect their ability to compete for, and win, government contracts.”
According to the article, the actions taken follow “recent adversarial nation-state attacks on DOD and contractor information systems, as well as official and press reports on supply chain vulnerability to such attacks.” Federal government contractors and subcontractors, the authors warn, “need to keep abreast of these initiatives and others that will likely follow given the evolving nature of cybersecurity and supply chain security threats and responses.”
