Julius Chen Profiled by Washington Business Journal for 40 Under 40 Selection

Washington Business Journal has featured Akin Gump Supreme Court and appellate partner Julius Chen as part of his selection for the publication’s 40 Under 40. (Click here to learn more.) The publication notes that Chen has been involved with litigating several high-profile corporate restructurings as well as cases on behalf of American Indian tribes, including one that led to a major water rights settlement. The Business Journal also notes that Chen has averaged more than 400 hours of pro bono work each year.

Chen spoke with the Business Journal about what the past year has been like:

His biggest work challenge for 2020: Chen states that his biggest challenge has been “staying connected” to his colleagues at the firm and working to maintain the firm’s strong sense of community.

What he misses most about his office: While noting that the transition to remote work has been “seamless,” Chen also states that “there’s no substitute for being able to pop your head into someone’s office and check in.”

His biggest takeaway from the increasing dialogue on racial justice and equality: Chen notes that “there’s so much power” in having conversations. He comments, “[T]he more we’re aware of the challenges we face as a society, as well as the biases we all carry, the more we can do to address them.”

The article also noted that Chen has served as a principal drafter of more than 20 legal briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court.
