Akin Advises Royal Government of Cambodia on Landmark Tariff Agreement with the United States

Contact:
(Washington, D.C.) — Akin advised the Royal Government of Cambodia in securing a landmark bilateral trade agreement with the United States. The agreement reduced Cambodia’s initially assigned reciprocal tariff rate from 49% to 19%, one of the largest reductions for any trading partner of the U.S. as part of this process.
Akin’s strategic guidance throughout the negotiations helped foster constructive dialogue between the parties, ultimately leading to an agreement that allows Cambodia to remain competitive in its exports to the U.S. and puts it on a path of continued economic growth.
The successful outcome reflects Akin’s cross-practice collaboration, drawing on the firm’s deep experience in Washington and its ability to navigate complex international trade and policy issues.
The Akin team was led by lobbying & public policy partner Scott Parven and included international trade partner Stephen Kho and lobbying & public policy senior policy advisor Joseph Fawkner and senior counsel Josh Teitelbaum.
