Akin Gump Lawyers’ and Staff Efforts Recognized by Food From The Bar Campaign 2021

Contact:
(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is proud to share that, through its participation in the Capital Area Food Bank’s annual Food From The Bar campaign—the legal community’s response to hunger in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region—earlier this year, its D.C. office raised more than $100,000 to provide meals to food-insecure children and families, a fundraising record for the office. Akin Gump partners, associates, counsel and business services staff all contributed to the firm’s total.
As part of the friendly competition among D.C.-area law firms and other legal organizations to raise the most money for the cause, Akin Gump won the Mid-Week Madness Award (for the most total donations on May 21 on three days’ notice) and the Finish Line Award (for the most total donations during the month of May). Akin Gump was the only firm to bring home more than one award from this year’s contest.
Commenting on the firm’s efforts, Tony Pierce, partner in charge of Akin Gump’s Washington, D.C. office, said, “There’s no better example of the culture or spirit of this firm than how our lawyers and staff came together through this contest to support such a worthwhile cause. I am exceptionally proud of everyone’s efforts, along with those of the broader Washington legal community whose contributions will make a real difference for those around the Washington region who are less fortunate.”
Akin Gump alumna Shannon Alford and her husband Michael were also awarded one of three MVP awards for their outstanding contribution via The Alford Foundation through a generous matching offer within the firm.
