Appointment bolsters Akin’s platform as demand for hybrid and capital solutions transactions reaches institutional scale
(New York) — Akin has named partner Ryan Cox as Co-Head of the firm’s Global Capital Solutions group, joining Dan Fisher and Prakash Mehta. Cox has built one of the most active hybrid capital practices in the market, earning a reputation as a practitioner sophisticated asset managers turn to for their most complex cross-capital-structure transactions.
Cox has led Akin’s hybrid capital practice since 2024 and advises leading asset managers and investors on structured equity financings and bespoke capital solutions across the full capital structure—spanning M&A and acquisition finance, sponsor liquidity, growth capital, recapitalizations and special situations. His work spans technology, energy and infrastructure, health care, financial services, and other sectors and clients include global asset managers, credit-heritage, structured equity and special situations investors, growth and venture funds, family offices, and both sponsored and non-sponsored issuers.
“Ryan has built his career advising the asset managers who pioneered today’s capital solutions strategies and has earned a reputation as the practitioner people want in the room when the stakes are highest. He is an exceptional deal leader and a natural team builder, and his leadership deepens a platform that is already the first call for many of the most sophisticated asset managers in the market,” said Dan Fisher, Co-Head of Capital Solutions.
“The market for hybrid capital has expanded significantly in recent years,” said Cox. “Akin’s integrated platform, particularly its credit heritage, investor relationships, and ability to execute across debt, hybrid, and equity within a single, integrated team, was built for this moment. I’m excited to continue building it with Dan and Prakash.”
Akin’s Capital Solutions group, launched in 2024, includes more than 120 lawyers worldwide and serves asset managers across the full range of private capital strategies: hybrid capital, structured and preferred equity, direct lending and private credit, special situations, and other complex cross-capital-structure transactions spanning debt and equity. The group advises more than half of Private Debt Investor’s Top 100 managers globally.
Akin is a leading international law firm with more than 1000 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
