(Washington, D.C.) – Akin announced today that David Giordano has joined the firm as a senior policy advisor in its lobbying & public policy practice in Washington, D.C. At a time of rapid geopolitical change and transformation across the international trade policy landscape, Giordano, a former top Republican trade staffer to the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, further strengthens a global team of more than one hundred top trade regulatory lawyers and trade policy advisors. Recent high-profile additions to the team include Kevin Brady, former House Ways & Means Committee Chairman; Kelly Ann Shaw, former top trade official in the first Trump administration; Cara Morrow, a former trade official with over 20 years of experience at senior levels at both the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and Commerce; and Sally Laing, former chief international trade counsel for Chair Ron Wyden (D-OR) and the Senate Finance Committee.

Giordano brings nearly a decade of experience with the House Ways and Means Committee, and most recently served as an international trade policy advisor to Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) and Committee Republicans, providing strategic counsel on complex trade issues, with a focus on the nexus between trade policy, national security and global supply chains. He has deep experience in reciprocal tariff negotiations, trade enforcement, legislative negotiations, trade and customs law, and bilateral relationships with U.S. trading partners. He also played an integral role in the successful passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith said, “David Giordano has been an invaluable member of the Ways and Means Committee staff, providing trusted guidance as we work to level the international playing field for American small businesses, manufacturers, and farmers. His work on the Trade Subcommittee has been instrumental in ensuring fairer treatment for U.S. job creators and strengthening America’s competitive position abroad. David’s hard work and dedication will be missed, but I wish him only the best as he embarks on this next chapter.”

“Few policy issues have been as active over the past year across virtually every sector of the economy as international trade. David’s addition to our already market-leading team of top advisors navigating these incredibly complex trade policy issues further cements Akin as the go-to firm for trade policy and trade lobbying help,” said Brian Pomper, co-head of the firm’s lobbying & public policy practice. “We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

“Akin is well-known on the Hill for having the strongest trade practice in Washington. I’m thrilled to join Akin’s legendary lobbying & public policy practice and look forward to using my experience on the Ways & Means Committee, as well as my deep understanding of Washington and policy, to guide clients toward meaningful outcomes on their most pressing trade-related priorities,” said Giordano on his move to the firm.
