Biography
  • Advises clients on financial restructuring matters.

Blaine Scott is a counsel in the firm’s financial restructuring practice. He advises debtors, creditors and other stakeholders in chapter 11 proceedings.

Prior to joining Akin, Blaine was an attorney at another major global law firm in New York. Blaine earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law.

Representative Work
  • Yellow Corporation: Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the chapter 11 cases of Yellow Corporation, an American-based trucking and transportation services company that operated one of the largest less-than-truckload networks in North America, involving over $1.2 billion of liabilities.
  • GWG Holdings: Counsel to the Official Committee of Bondholders in the chapter 11 cases of GWG Holdings and its affiliates, a financial services firm that invests in secondary life insurance assets and sells life insurance-backed bonds, involving over $2 billion in liabilities. 
  • Diamond Sports: Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the chapter 11 cases of Diamond Sports Group and its affiliates, an operator of regional sports broadcast networks for more than 40 teams across Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association, involving more than $8 billion in liabilities.
  • Revlon: Counsel to an ad hoc group of secured term loan lenders in the chapter 11 cases of Revlon and its affiliates, a personal care and cosmetics company that sells its products in approximately 150 countries, involving $3.5 billion in liabilities.
  • Limetree Bay: Counsel to an ad hoc term lender group in the chapter 11 case of Limetree Bay Refining, a U.S. Virgin Islands-based oil refinery, involving approximately $1 billion in liabilities. Section 363 Sale of the Year $50MM to $100MM (M&A Advisor)
  • Strike: Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the chapter 11 cases of Strike and its affiliates, one of North America’s largest pipeline and energy infrastructure providers, involving $300 million in liabilities.
