Biography
  • Focuses on federal litigation involving American Indian law, with a particular focus on litigation involving water rights. 
  • Represents and provides strategic advice to clients in relation to American Indian law and policy.

Brette advises clients regarding American Indian law and policy in a variety of areas involving project development, litigation, environment, and land and natural resources. She is heavily involved in Akin’s 105(l) leasing practice.

Most recently, Brette clerked for the Hon. Gregory K. Frizzell of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. Earlier in her career, she served as the pro bono legal intern at a public law and policy firm dedicated to serving cultural-heritage clients. In her role, she assisted attorneys in drafting motions and briefs for filing in both state and federal courts on behalf of an American Indian tribe, and she was involved in litigation challenging the rescission of state tribal recognition.

Brette also served as a legal intern at the Oklahoma Indian Legal Services, as well as at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Tribal Court. During this time, she worked on the Indian Child Welfare Docket, where her work included tribal court appearances on behalf of the Nation in Indian Child Welfare cases. She also assisted attorneys in updating the Nation’s guidelines for compliance with the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013.

Brette was a member of Akin’s 2016 summer associate class.
