Biography

Dan is a partner in Akin’s Private Equity practice. He advises private equity sponsors and corporate clients on complex transactions across the UK and Europe, including cross-border acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, disposals, public-to-private deals, and minority investments. With more than two decades of experience, Dan leads multidisciplinary legal teams across a broad range of sectors, including technology, software, data, telecommunications, investment management, health care, life sciences, and retail and consumer products.

Dan has been recognized as a leading M&A and private equity lawyer by numerous industry publications, including The Legal 500 UK and IFLR1000. Additionally, he has been named to the The Lawyer's "Hot 100" list and has been recognized as one of the 30 most influential lawyers in private equity under the age of 40 by Private Funds Management, and as a "Superstar Lawyer of Tomorrow" in Private Equity Manager's "Roll of Honour."

Advised Francisco Partners on more than 30 transactions including:

  • the take private of Cybit Holdings plc, the subsequent add-on acquisition of Masternaut and the sale of the combined business to a joint venture between Summit Partners and Fleetcor
  • the acquisition of Buongiorno’s B2B business
  • the sale of CMAC Aerospace
  • the take private of Kewill plc (latterly renamed BluJay Solutions), a leading provider of supply chain software and services
  • the add-on acquisitions by BluJay Solutions of:
    • Raven Logistics
    • Blackbay
    • Expedient Software
    • ERA Systems
    • Lean Logistics
    • Grosvenor Consumer Products
  • the minority investment by Temasek in BluJay Solutions
  • the acquisition of Avecto, a provider of endpoint privilege management software solutions
  • the acquisition of LiveU, a leading video streaming and remote production solutions provider and the subsequent sale of LiveU to Carlyle
  • the acquisition of MyHeritage and the acquisition of MesAiuex.com by MyHeritage
  • its joint bid (alongside CVC Capital Partners) for Network International plc, valuing the business at £2.1bn
  • the take private of Blancco Technology Group plc

Advised AEA Investors on multiple transactions, including:

  • the sale of Dematic, a leading provider of intralogistics solutions to KION, for $3.25bn
  • the acquisition of Process Sensing Technologies, a specialist provider of industrial instruments and analysers for precision measurement of gas and humidity
  • the acquisition of Scan Global, a global shipping and logistics company based in Copenhagen, Denmark and its subsequent sale
  • the acquisition of B&C International by Springs Windows Fashions
  • the acquisition of SensoScientific, a provider of cloud-connected environmental monitoring systems
  • the acquisition of Fluid Components International, a manufacturer of thermal dispersion technology flow and level measurement instrumentation
  • the acquisition of Meater, a manufacturer of smart wireless meat thermometers
  • the sale of Process Sensing Technologies to Dwyer-Omega, a leading provider of measurement instrumentation and monitoring solutions for process-critical applications worldwide
  • the sale of LoneStar, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-performance fasteners, sealing products and precision-engineered components

Advised CVC Capital Partners on its acquisition and subsequent sale of Wireless Logic to Montagu Private Equity. Wireless Logic is a leading global Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity platform provider

Advised CVC Capital Partners and its portfolio company System C Healthcare on:

  • the acquisition of CIS Oncology, an innovative chemotherapy prescription and management system
  • the acquisition of Clevermed, a leading maternity and neonatal patient record software provider
  • the acquisition of Oxford Computer Consultants,  a leading British IT business specialising in integrated contracts and finance solutions for social care within local government
  • the acquisition of MYP Technologies, an Australian health and care management tech provider

Advised Dyal Capital Partners on:

  • its investment in CVC Capital Partners
  • its investment in Round Hill Capital
  • its investment in Chenavari

Advised KKR on its investment in Marshall Wace

Advised Permira on:

  • its definitive agreement to take private Mimecast, a NASDAQ- listed company that specialises in email security and cyber resilience. The transaction valued Mimecast at $5.8 billion
  • its investment (alongside New York-based growth fund Stripes) in GWI, the leading global market research and audience insights software platform

Advised Kartesia Management on:

  • the investment in Kartesia by New York Life / Candriam
  • its acquisition of a controlling stake in Flexam, a French headquartered credit fund management business

Advised Park Square Capital on its investment in Cleanova

Advised Cambridge Information Group (CIG), a family-owned global investment firm, in its acquisition of Emerald Publishing, a UK-based digital publishing company

Advised Zoovu on multiple investment rounds as well its sale to FTV Capital

Advised Alteri Investors, a specialist investor in European retail backed by funds managed affiliates of Apollo, on the acquisition of the Bensons for Beds business through a pre-packaged administration

Advised Jacobs Engineering Group in its strategic partnership with PA Consulting Group to acquire a 65% stake in PA Consulting. The transaction valued PA Consulting at c.$2.5bn

Advised Yellow Wood Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm focussed on investing in consumer brands and companies, in its definitive agreement to acquire the Scholl footcare brand from Reckitt Benckiser Group plc
