Jasmine advises clients on international trade matters, focusing on customs and import compliance. She provides comprehensive legal counsel on enforcement laws administered by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including tariff classification, country of origin determination, valuation and compliance with supply chain security programs such as Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT). She is also experienced in duty preference programs, free trade agreements and compliance policy implementation such as the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) forced labor regulations.
Jasmine conducts country-of-origin analyses under substantial transformation and free trade agreements. She represents clients in investigations, audits and Risk Analysis and Survey Assessments (RASAs), and advises on filings and submissions, including binding rulings, disclosures, post-summary corrections and responses to customs inquiries. Additionally, she is skilled at identifying import-related risks by conducting risk assessments and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) diligence reviews for import compliance. Jasmine also represents transportation clients before the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), providing a broad range of services that support her clients’ international trade needs.
Prior to joining Akin, Jasmine was a customs associate at another global law firm in Houston, Texas, where she advised clients on international trade. She also has significant in-house experience with international companies in the energy, oil and gas sectors, where she advised on import compliance.
Jasmine received her J.D. from South Texas College of Law and her M.B.A. from the University of Houston Downtown. She also holds a B.B.A. from Texas Tech University and is a licensed attorney in the State of Texas, admitted to the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas. She is currently a member of the Houston District Export Committee (DEC).
