Biography
  • Advises a wide range of stakeholders on complex contentious and non-contentious restructuring transactions.
  • Practice concentrates on UK and cross-border financial restructurings, insolvency scenarios and special situation transactions.

Simon serves as counsel in the financial restructuring practice in London. He acts for major financial institutions, alternative asset managers, insolvency practitioners and large multinational companies in contentious and non-contentious matters related to balance sheet restructurings, formal insolvency appointments and complex refinancings and recapitalisations.

Prior to joining Akin, Simon was an associate at other international law firms in London and Sydney.

  • Ares: Counsel on a confidential direct lending recapitalisation mandate.
  • Brookfield: Counsel to Brookfield on an offshore third party insolvency scenario that impacted a portfolio company.
  • Bain Capital: Counsel on various confidential special situation financing and restructuring mandates.
  • Lecta: Counsel to an ad hoc group of secured bondholders to the Spanish paper company in its financial restructuring.
  • ICG: Counsel to Intermediate Capital Group as sole remaining first lien lender on the fully consensual debt-for-equity swap of a distressed private equity portfolio company.
  • BSI: Counsel to Brookfield Special Investments in connection with its senior secured financing to an Australian debt collection and servicing business.
  • New Fortress Energy: Counsel to the energy infrastructure company in relation to its balance sheet and corporate restructuring, implemented pursuant to UK part 26A restructuring plans.
  • Endo International plc: Counsel to the pharmaceuticals company in relation to its restructuring, implemented pursuant to chapter 11 and an Irish creditors’ scheme of arrangement.
  • Boart Longyear: Counsel to the global mining services company in relation to its comprehensive restructuring, implemented pursuant to inter-conditional creditors’ schemes of arrangement and a re-domiciliation members’ scheme of arrangement.
  • Luxor Capital: Counsel to Luxor Capital Group on its acquisition of the Volta Trucks business and assets via an administration sale.
  • Virgin Airlines: Counsel to a large Australian financial institution as a major secured creditor in the administration of Virgin Airlines.
  • Sun Cable: Counsel to the administrators on the administration of the multinational Australian renewal energy venture.
