Tarun Warriar is a partner in the global special situations & private credit practice of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, a limited liability partnership under the laws and regulations of numerous jurisdictions both inside and outside the United States. Tarun will be based in the Hong Kong office.*
Tarun has extensive experience advising on special situations investments, restructuring and contentious matters across public and private markets in Asia. He also provides strategic litigation advice to management and creditors of financially distressed companies, as well as private equity funds facing issues with portfolio companies in emerging markets.
Prior to joining Akin, Tarun was Managing Director and APAC General Counsel at a leading global alternative investment firm specializing in credit and credit-related assets. He was previously a partner in the Restructuring and Special Situations practice at a U.S. firm. He was recognized as a “Next Generation Partner” in Restructuring and Insolvency by The Legal 500.

- Advised a consortium of investors on a US$500m financing and one -time settlement with existing lenders to RattanIndia Power.
- Advised investors on bids in the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Processes of certain Indian companies.
- Advised an ad hoc committee of holders of the US$546 m Step Up Convertible Bonds due 2019 issued by Suzlon Energy Ltd. on a restructuring of the notes.
- Advised on the potential recapitalization and management takeover of a distressed real-estate focused PE fund.
- Advised an ad hoc committee of holders of the US$300 m senior secured notes issued by Reliance Communications Limited on the restructuring of the notes.
