Tarun is a partner in the global capital solutions practice. He is based in the Hong Kong office. Tarun is a leading advisor to investors focused on distressed and complex situations across public and private markets in Asia, including hedge funds, private equity firms, debtors, creditors, bondholders, institutional investors and ad hoc creditors’ committees.
He structures cutting-edge investment solutions to address the complex issues arising in connection with companies in financial distress and opportunistic investments. He is also a leading advisor on restructuring and insolvency, and provides strategic and crisis management advice to creditors and management of financially distressed companies, as well as private equity funds facing issues with portfolio companies in emerging markets.
Standing out in the market, Tarun is a “go-to” with respect to India-focused investments and transactions. Leveraging his deep understanding of the legal, financial and commercial landscapes that define the India market, Tarun provides comprehensive advice across the spectrum of India-focused investments and transactions. He was recently included in India Business Law Journal’s International A List as an A-List Lawyer.
Tarun has practiced in the region for over a decade. Prior to joining Akin, Tarun was Managing Director and APAC General Counsel at a leading global alternative investment firm specializing in credit and credit-related assets, which gives him a unique perspective when advising clients. Prior to that, he was a partner in the restructuring and special situations practice at a leading U.S. firm.
- Advising an ad hoc group of lenders in the Chapter 11 cases of Marelli, a Japan-based multinational automotive supplier, involving $4.9 billion in liabilities.
- Advising an ad hoc committee of holders of the US$175m bonds issued by SriLankan Airlines Ltd and guaranteed by the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
- Advising a credit fund on a US$200m financing to a borrower to acquire securities listed in India.
- Advising an ad hoc committee of holders of the US$350m and US$414m bonds issued by Azure Power Solar Energy Ltd and Azure Power Energy Ltd on a restructuring of the bonds.
- Advising a credit investor on a US$100m External Commercial Borrowing facility to an Indian borrower.
- Advising a credit investor on a US$200m financing to acquire listed securities issued by an Asian conglomerate.
- Advising a creditor of Vedanta Resources on the restructuring of its US$100m facility to Vedanta.
