Akin Gump Among Top Texas Firms in The American Lawyer’s Corporate Scorecard
(Houston) – Texas Lawyer has once again noted Akin Gump’s place among the busiest law firms in Texas for dealmaking. Akin Gump was one of six firms to be recognized by the publication in the article “Six Texas Firms Among Nation’s Busiest Dealmaking Firms.” The firm was cited for being among the national leaders doing equities work for U.S. companies, according to The American Lawyer’s Corporate Scorecard 2017.
Akin Gump oil and gas partner John Goodgame described 2016 as an “interesting year.” He said the first six months were slow for capital markets work in the energy sector. As commodity prices and investor sentiment grew stronger, however, he observed that there was more equity activity by exploration and production companies with assets in areas such as the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico and SCOOP/STACK in Oklahoma. “Those are the areas where there’s been the most focus by oil and gas companies and therefore by investors, so that is the area where we saw the most capital flow in transactions,” Goodgame said.
The Corporate Scorecard, which includes the most active firms doing corporate finance and capital markets work, ranked Akin Gump among the top firms nationally for the number of transactions involving equities by U.S. companies and for the value of deals or issues.
