PERE magazine, in its special report “Sweet then sour,” covered the controversy surrounding Winnington Capital, a hedge fund manager that raised $1 billion for its Trophy Property Development Fund—at the time, the “largest commingled pool of private capital corralled for Chinese real estate,” according to the magazine.

PERE notes that, as signs of difficulties emerged in the Trophy Property fund and communications broke down between the fund manager, its partner and its investors, the three sides sought legal representation.  Two of the investors—Franklin Templeton Real Estate Advisors and The Townsend Group—engaged Akin Gump.  The firm’s efforts on their behalf were led by investment management partner Fadi Samman, supported by counsel Angela Adams.
