(Washington, D.C.) – Chambers and Partners, in the 2018 edition of Chambers Latin America, has ranked Akin Gump and its lawyers as leaders in the categories “Latin America-wide, Energy & Natural Resources” and “Latin America-wide, Projects.” Chambers Latin America covers 20 jurisdictions and spans Mexico; Central America; the islands of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico; and all Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries on the South American subcontinent.

In Energy & Natural Resources, the firm is ranked and noted as a “noteworthy practice frequently involved in a range of matters including negotiations for exploration contracts, formations of joint ventures among energy companies and infrastructure development for LNG storage and regasification projects, as well as related financings.” The firm’s experience in handling renewable energy projects is also noted.

Akin Gump global project finance partner Dino Barajas and oil and gas partner Steve Otillar are ranked in this category as well.

Mr. Barajas’ activity in project financing and M&A deals and knowledge of, and insight into, Chile, Brazil and Mexico, among other jurisdictions, are both noted by Chambers.

Chambers highlighted Mr. Otillar’s focus on development, financing and construction mandates in the energy space, as well as his sector-related M&A transactional work.

Mr. Barajas is also ranked in Projects and described as a “very practical and solution-oriented lawyer” with work spanning corporate and financing matters tied to energy and infrastructure projects in such jurisdictions as Brazil, Mexico and Nicaragua.

These recognitions follow the firm’s recent ranking in The Legal 500 Latin America 2017 for its Latin American projects and energy work for the fourth straight year. To learn more, please click here. The firm and Mr. Barajas were separately recognized by Latinvex earlier this year: Akin Gump as one of the top international law firms in Latin America (learn more here), and Mr. Barajas as one of the top 100 lawyers in Latin America (learn more here).
