(London) – Akin Gump’s London office is pleased to have been accepted to join Stonewall’s Diversity Champions Programme.

The Diversity Champions Programme is the leading U.K. employers’ program for LGBT employees, working to ensure that all people are accepted, without exception, in the workplace. Stonewall currently works with over 850 of the world’s leading organizations to create fully inclusive workplace environments by integrating diversity and inclusion into all parts of the business.

Companies in the program benefit from a number of tools provided by Stonewall to further enhance a workplace in which LGBT staff help to drive performance, engagement and innovation. These tools include the provision of best practice expertise and resources, visibility and branding, networking and events as well as annual benchmarking and assessment, a key part of Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index.

Akin Gump is committed to providing a work environment that fosters a culture of inclusiveness across its global offices. Earlier this year, the firm earned its 13th consecutive perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual Corporate Equality Index, recognizing the firm’s LGBTQ+-inclusive workplace policies.

Emma Simmonds, financial restructuring partner and chair of Akin Gump’s London Diversity and Inclusion Council, comments: “The London office has sought to establish and sustain a diverse and inclusive work environment where all members of the firm’s community can thrive and grow. Joining Stonewall’s Diversity Champions Programme will help us to enhance our diversity and inclusion efforts, and we are delighted to be a part of this initiative.”

About Akin Gump’s Diversity and Inclusion Programs

Akin Gump’s London office is home to local chapters of firmwide resource groups encompassing LGBTQ+, BAME, women, social mobility and more. At the office level, the firm has a local Diversity and Inclusion Council in London, as well as in every U.S. office, providing a forum for all personnel to communicate ideas to firm management and to recommend additional means to enhance diversity and inclusion (D&I) within the firm.

As part of its D&I efforts, the firm maintains family-friendly policies that ensure that lawyers who work a reduced schedule remain eligible for promotion, as well as an agile work program that recognizes that providing flexible work arrangements can play an important role in providing excellent client service while also providing additional flexibility to the firm’s lawyers.

Akin Gump was also pleased to have been included by Yale Law Women in May 2020 as among the Top Firms for Working Mothers and Family Planning. Please read more here.
