JP Bruynes and Libbie Walker, partner and associate, respectively, in the investment management practice at Akin Gump, have written the article “Regulation AT: What Investment Managers Need to Know,” which was published by Automated Trader.

The article addresses the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)’s notice of proposed rulemaking on regulation automated trading, also known as Regulation AT. Bruynes and Walker write that it “proposes new risk control, transparency and compliance measures for automated trading on US designated contract markets (DCMs).”

The authors outline some steps that investment managers who are engaged in “algorithmic trading” must take to ensure compliance with new regulations. These include registration with the CFTC and a registered futures association, the implementation of new written policies, and annual report and record-keeping, among others.
